GUIDED IDENTIFICATION

Bird ID

A guided identification tool narrows likely birds using observable traits rather than expecting a new volunteer to know taxonomic vocabulary.

About how big is the bird?

Ping-pong ball · football · watermelon
2

What shape and posture do you see?

Perched · long-legged · round-bodied
3

What stands out?

Bill · feet · color pattern · behavior

DECISION PRACTICE

Scenario Practice

Trainees practice evaluating caller information and choosing the next operational step, with scenario content managed by trainers.

Scenario 04

Finder calls about an injured native bird.

What information do you need before deciding whether to accept, refer, or give immediate instructions?

Caller informationSafetySpecies ruleNext step

SIMULATED CALL TRAINING

Practice Calls

A trainee gets the caller, not the answer key. The simulator can vary the hidden case, caller personality, communication difficulty, and media supplied during the call.

LIVE PRACTICE CALL Caller: Jamie Fictional training scenario

Caller: “I found a tiny bird on the patio and I don't know what I'm supposed to do.”

Trainee: “I can help you work through it. What city are you in, and can you tell me where exactly you found the bird?”

Caller: “I'm in Example City. It was under the patio table. It's moving, but not very much.”

Type your next response…
SCENARIOWhat actually happened?

The facts the trainee must uncover.

PERSONALITYHow does the caller behave?

Calm, panicked, skeptical, impatient, confidently wrong, and more.

MODIFIERWhat makes this call harder?

Communication complications can change how the same scenario feels.

MEDIAWhat evidence appears?

Photos or short videos can be part of the simulated call.

ACTIVE OPERATIONS

Call Log

The same portal used for training can support the real operational workflow after qualification. This example keeps call records structured and searchable without mixing them into the training simulator.

TRAINER TOOLS

Call Reviews

Practice calls become reviewable training records. Trainers can score specific competencies, leave feedback, and decide whether a call counts toward qualification.

AWAITING REVIEWPractice Call #18

Calm caller · juvenile animal · incomplete initial information

Trainee: Demo Volunteer · 12 minutes
REVIEWEDPractice Call #17

Strong information gathering; closing plan needed more explicit confirmation.

COUNTS TOWARD QUALIFICATIONPractice Call #16

TRAINER TOOLS

Practice Content

Experienced knowledge can be preserved as reusable training content instead of remaining only in one person's head. Trainees never see this inventory while a simulation is running.

SCENARIOS24 published

Cases with facts, expected reasoning, and evaluation points.

PERSONALITIES8 published

Caller behavior changes without changing the underlying case.

MODIFIERS11 published

Extra complications that make practice less predictable.

MEDIA PACKS16 published

Fictional images and clips associated with training cases.

Why this matters: When experienced volunteers or staff retire, the organization does not have to lose all of the judgment they developed. The portal turns that experience into maintained training material that future volunteers can actually practice with.
